Centre for European Studies wins more than $1m in EU research funding

The ANU Centre for European Studies (ANUCES) has won three grants worth $A1.2m in the latest round of funding from the European Union.
ANU research teams to benefit include faculty members from the ANU Fenner School of Environment & Society (Dr Katherine Daniell), the ANU College of Law (Ms Anne McNaughton and Associate Professor Matthew Zagor), and the ANU College of Arts & Social Sciences (Dr Laurence Brown).
The grants, part of the Jean Monnet Activities scheme administered by the Union’s executive arm the European Commission, excludes partnership contributions from other institutions.
The grants won include one Network grant and two Project grants. The Network grant, led by ANUCES Executive Director Professor Jacqueline Lo, is entitled 'Politics, Policy, Culture: EU Migration and Integration'. It is focused on the study of third-country migrant integration in the European Union through the lenses of politics, policy, governance, and culture.
A Project grant, also led by Professor Jacqueline Lo and entitled 'Europa Policy Labs', seeks to boost knowledge of the EU across Australian government, industry and civil society.
The second Project grant is led by ANUCES Associate Director Dr Annmarie Elijah, and ANUCES Adjunct Associate Professor Dr Hazel Moir.
Entitled 'Understanding Geographic Indications', its objectives include up-to-date compilation of the empirical evidence of geographical indicators for Australia, New Zealand and the USA; critical assessment of the state of knowledge about those indicators to identify gaps in knowledge for policy-making; and to improve knowledge of geographical indicators for policy making, and trade negotiations.
